Hold your horses… or should we say, sea horses?
Deep beneath the waves, hidden amongst the swaying coral gardens, lives a creature so magical it looks like it swam straight out of a fairy tale. He wears armour, his eyes see in two directions at once, and—here is the real magic—he is the one giving birth!

ORIGIN & HABITAT
These mystical creatures drift through tropical and temperate coastal waters across the globe. Unlike open-ocean swimmers, they prefer the "enchanted forests" of the sea—mangroves, seagrass beds, and colourful coral reefs. Because they are not strong swimmers, they use their monkey-like tails to anchor themselves to plants, swaying gently with the ocean currents like living decorations.
BACKSTORY
The name Hippocampus translates to "Horse Sea Monster," but this little guy is a lover, not a fighter. Covered in tiny, spiny plates from head to tail, they look like knights in shining armour. But their true power lies in their ability to vanish. As masters of camouflage, they can change colour and grow textures to blend perfectly into the coral, becoming invisible to predators. It’s not just biology; it’s magic.

SUPERPOWERS
1. The Ocean's Super Daddy
This is where the legend becomes real. In the seahorse kingdom, the father carries the burden of life! The female entrusts her eggs to the male’s 'brood pouch', where he keeps them safe and warm for up to 45 days. When the time is right, he labours to release tiny, fully-formed babies into the water. It is a level of devotion rarely seen in the animal kingdom.

2. The Romantic Dance
Seahorses are true romantics. Every morning, bonded pairs will meet to perform a greeting dance. They change colours to brighten up, link their tails, and pirouette together for minutes or even hours. It reinforces their bond and prepares them for the day.
3. The 360-Degree Gaze
With eyes that move independently of each other, a seahorse can watch a predator behind him while spotting a delicious shrimp in front. Nothing escapes his watch.
